The upcoming CIB PSA World Tour Finals in Cairo’s EDNC SODIC venue will showcase two thrilling new rule changes.
- Power Plays:
- In this rule, players will be granted the opportunity to utilize Power Plays, first introduced in November’s Carrus Nations Cup. By requesting a Power Play, a player can potentially win two points in a single rally. Each player will have two Power Plays per match during the group stage and semi-finals, while three Power Plays will be available in the finals. If a player requests a Power Play, they have a chance to earn two points in the next rally, while the player who did not request a Power Play can only earn the usual one point. Both players can request a Power Play simultaneously, and if the rally is interrupted (Let is called), it will be replayed under the same circumstances. It is even possible to win an entire game using a Power Play. For instance, if the score is tied at 9-9 and both players request a Power Play, the victor of that rally will win the game.
- Sudden Death:
- Another change pertains to games that reach a score of 10-10. Instead of the conventional tie-break format, a sudden death rally will occur. The player who wins that rally will secure the game, eliminating the need to achieve a two-point advantage as required in regular PSA World Tour events. However, this rule does not apply to the final games. – In the group matches and semi-finals (best-of-three games scoring), the first two games will undergo a sudden death rally, while the third game will employ the regular tie-break format. In the finals (best-of-five games), the first four games will implement the sudden death decider, while the fifth game will return to the usual tie-break format.
